Editorial objective

The Journal of Business Strategy publishes articles with a practical focus designed to help readers develop successful business strategies. Articles should say something new or different and may propose a unique perspective. They should not offer prescriptions to CEOs on how to manage, but rather be directed toward middle and senior managers at companies of all sizes and types, as well as consultants and academics who want to think about their businesses in new ways.

As one of the few journals dedicated to business strategy, JBS defines strategy in the broadest sense and thus covers topics as diverse as marketing strategy, innovation, developments in the global economy, mergers & acquisition integration and human resources. We have a penchant for substantive, provocative and well-written articles. We also like to break the mould and include articles on topics readers are unlikely to find in other business publications.

Key benefits

On a bi-monthly basis, JBS will help you learn more about:

  • Sharpening and broadening leadership skills
  • Ensuring shareholder value exceeds expectations
  • Technological developments that directly shape strategy
  • How a wide variety of organizations have coped successfully with common problems of strategy and competition
  • Fostering innovation and inventiveness in a corporate structure
  • New ways to leave the competition behind.

Key journal audiences

If you are middle or senior manager, a global or regional executive, a college professor, a consultant to business, or a business student, you will find worthwhile reading in JBS and be able to apply what you've read about to real situations that affect profitability and performance.

JBS is for:

  • Executives, senior and middle managers
  • Consultants
  • Researchers
  • Corporate and academic libraries

Unique attributes

The Journal of Business Strategy has a distinctly practical bent and is geared toward senior and middle managers in organizations and industries throughout the world. JBS was established more than 25 years ago and contains articles from leading academics as well as business writers and consultants. Every issue has a mix of articles from top business school thinkers, consultants, policy-makers and business executives. Each issue also features three columns:

  • Reaching for value
  • Alternative strategies (an often irreverent look at strategy) by independent consultant Patrick Marren
  • Strategy crossroads

JBS knows that its readers are sophisticated, overworked, international, and ever eager for new insights. We gather the best articles from the leading thinkers and doers of the business, consulting and academic worlds to offer readers new ideas, to explore future trends, and to skim the intellectual cream from the vast offerings of writing on business strategy.
